About us

We are a grassroots community focused organisation founded during the spring of 2006, by Mr. Andrae D Palmer C.E.O of Ground Up Development. At the time Andrae was only 23 years old when he began building the foundations of this reputable organisation now servicing the needs of a range of young people from all types of backgrounds. From humble beginnings starting in his bedroom at his mothers’ home in the centre of Brixton Ground Up has successfully established its presence as a key player in revolutionising youth service provision in the U.K and beyond!

We provide an innovative, safe and non-threatening environment for young people to build confidence, gain skills, express creativity, increase self esteem, air their views and find solutions to many of the problems and issues facing young people today.

It all started with the young visionary who began building the foundations of the organisation in 2006. Andrae was a teenage Caribbean boy on his way down a very slippery slope until he was forced to grow up by the harsh realities often encountered by the youth growing up in London’s inner city...

Our core aims are:

  • Motivate and encourage marginalised YP and give them hope for the future
  • Empower YP with knowledge  (especially of their history and its relevance)
  • Encourage and support creativity amongst YP (music, the arts, drama…etc)
  • Foster a greater sense of self worth  and dignity
  • To help YP develop a positive attitude towards education
  • To train YP to become Peer Educators and Team Leaders
  • To broaden their understanding of the issues we deal with in modern society (i.e. racism, poverty, nationalism... etc)
  • To develop YP in aspects of Self awareness, Identity, Citizenship and Self Development.
  • Celebrate diversity and multiculturalism
  • Expose YP to alternative routes to successful careers and to increase their chances of employability (through volunteering / participation)
